Sakuramame
(Japanese: さくら豆, Romaji: sakura mame, English: Sakura Bean, Sakura)
(Pole) A native variety grown by farmers for generations in Assabu town, southern Hokkaidō. Sakuramame is said to have been brought by settlers from the Tohoku region during the settlement of Assabu. This variety is for dry use. Its seeds are quick to cook and can be used boiled to top or fill Japanese sweets. (Beniya Hasegawa Shoten, 2024)
