According to the common legend, this variety was grown by the Bishop of Shrewsbury, Edmund Knight (1827-1905). 1, 2, 3, 4 It was“[…] to have been passed to some of the local congregants in the late 1800’s” (Veggie Gardener, 2024). 4 Atypically, this variety produces deep black pods.
