Double Red

(Sweet) Double Red was bred over the span of 25 years by Dr. Alan M. Kapuler (“Mushroom”) Ph.D. of Peace Seeds on his organic farm in Corvallis, Oregon. He later collaborated on Double Red, for eight years with his daughter Dylana Kapuler and her husband Mario DiBenedetto.
Dr. Kapular often focused on nutrition value of plants in his breeding work. This corn and the silk are naturally high in anthocyanin (from its deep purple/burgundy pigmentation).
Double Red is a sweet corn (normal sugary SE kernels). It has also been used as both corn meal and flour. Leaves and stalks are a mix of green and red. 1-2 ears per plant. Has the potential as a good dye plant. Will leave fingers a purple-red.
