Mixed Cornfield bean
(Pole) According to Great Lakes Staple Seeds this variety was collected in 1988 by a seedsaver in Jackson County, Michigan. His neighbour Effie Neeley (1908-2000) obtained this variety from her mother Suzanne (Wireman) Howard in the 1920s, shortly after her marriage and brought the beans with her when they moved from Magoffin County, Kentucky. Suzanne told her daughter Effie that, “if she brought the beans with them and kept them alive, she’d always be able to feed her family” (Great Lakes Staple Seeds). This strain has diverged from the original as it adapted to Canada. 1, 2
