Wild Pea of Umbria

(Roveja)
(Field) An Italian heirloom rediscovered in the barn of a country house. 1 According to the Seed Savers Exchange, the Wild Pea of Umbria has been grown dating back to the Neothic times. 2 Its cultivation for seed by shepherds and pheasants was prominent on Italy’s Apennine Mountains, especially the area of the Umbria-Marche ridge. 2 Because of the variation in seed colour and ancient origins of this variety, it is likely to be a landrace.
